Victoria Clue Solving Adventures

Embark on a scavenger hunt style adventure through Victoria, BC! 

It’s your chance to explore, discover and have fun in Victoria during a unique and interactive game. Using a smartphone or tablet as your “tour guide”, family and friends can join you in testing your knowledge, uncover city hotspots, and have lots of fun!

These adventures are great experiences for families, friends, and groups. Race against the clock or simply meander along as you enjoy the experience. How you explore Victoria is entirely up to you!

How it works:

• You’ll receive a series of clues on the free APP. Each clue will guide you to the next location where you'll solve a puzzle or find a hidden word.
• Along the way, you'll visit local icons, experience stunning scenery and uncover hidden places.
• Once you’ve registered your adventure and selected your start date with the tour provider, you will receive an email with the instructions and the access code. This happens after you’ve activated your experience on Breakaway Experiences’ website.
• Download the free APP and use the access code to activate your adventure.
• Clues are sequential and written assuming you have no knowledge of the town.
• Submit the correct answer and you will immediately get the next clue. Don’t worry, hints and directions are available, but they’ll cost you a time penalty!
• Solve all the clues and solve the final mystery!

Choose from 3 exciting Victoria Adventures:

1. Totems and Tulips

Discover a whole new side to Victoria’s waterfront and its iconic buildings on a fun, family-friendly search for a valuable family heirloom. A distant relative, Sam Shovel, came to Victoria in 1858 seeking riches in the gold rush. You have learned he brought with him a precious stone, a family heirloom that is supposedly hidden in the city and by rights should be yours! Follow a trail of clues and hidden secrets around the streets of Victoria’s waterfront to find the precious heirloom.

• Start location: Victoria's Inner Harbour area

• Start time: Start any day any time. Just finish before dark!

• Walking distance: Approximately 2.5km of mostly flat walking.

• Average time to complete:  90 minutes plus optional breaks.

• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.

• Children: This adventure is great for families. 

2. Fountain of Youth

Discover Victoria’s scenic Oak Bay as you race to find the legendary Fountain of Youth. Explore the courtyards, alleyways, and artwork of this quaint English-style village, as you race to solve clues and find hidden secrets along the way. Legend has it that in 1850, John Tod, the Chief Fur Trader from the renowned Hudson’s Bay Company, hid what locals describe as the mythical Fountain of Youth. Do you have what it takes to solve the mystery?

• Start location: Oak Bay Village

• Start time: Start any day any time. Just finish before dark!

• Walking distance: Approximately 1.5km of flat walking, with a few stairs.

• Average time to complete: 60 minutes plus optional breaks.

• What you need:  At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.

• Children: This adventure is good for families. 

3. After the Gold Rush

Experience a thrilling adventure through Victoria’s fabulous old streets, shops, and alleyways! Follow a trail of clues and solve the mystery of who stole your family’s Gold Rush fortune in a race against time, as rival gangs try to unravel the clues first.

• Start location:  Downtown Victoria

• Start time:  Any day of the week though we recommend playing during business hours.

• Walking distance: approximately 2.5 km on mostly flat roads, with a few stairs.

• Average time to complete: 2 hours plus optional breaks.

• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.

• Children: This adventure is good for families with kids 10+. 

Need to know:

• You are not required to purchase anything during the game. There will be opportunities for shopping and dining if you wish.
• Please ensure that your phone is charged before you start. Additional phones can be added at no extra cost. You are only required to use the phone for the APP - no internet browsing or photos.
• Bringing a phone charger is a good idea if your battery is weak. You may charge your phone by speaking to the businesses at your scheduled breaks.
• Data plans are only used to activate the adventure and are not used during play.
