Your tour begins with meeting your guide outside of Container Village. Launched in 2022, Container Village (or Area 506 Vendor Village) is a diverse range of shops, performance space, food trucks, art, and more built amidst over 60 shipping containers along the waterfront.
You will then make your way to your first stop at the Three Sisters Lamp. This Victorian-style lamp, originally lit in 1877, is in direct line with the steeple of Trinity Church so that sea captains could navigate their way into Saint John Harbour safely at night. From here, you can see the Port of Saint John, and Partridge Island.
Next, the tour continues towards Queen Square. With its stunning Victorian-era architecture, lush green space, and beautiful fountains, Queen Park is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Saint John.
Following your guide, you will make your way to King Square, a classic, historic, and inviting urban park, with its beautifully maintained gardens, historic monuments, and Victorian-era architecture, along with several restaurants, cafés, and shops. You’ll see how its pathways were designed in the shape of the British Union flag as a tribute to the Saint John’s Loyalist heritage.
Your guide will then lead you to the Loyalist Burial Ground. This cemetery was used as the final resting place for many of the Saint John’s early settlers and features a collection of monuments and headstones, some of which date back to the late 1700s.
Then, it’s on to Saint John City Market, designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Established in the late 1800s, the market is a vibrant hub of activity, offering a diverse range of goods and services, including locally sourced produce, hand-crafted gifts, artisanal food items, and more. You will love venturing through this amazing market.
The tour continues with a walk through the Harbour Passage, a network of linked cycling and walking paths, historical landmarks, and lookout points, that link the western and northern parts of the city with Uptown Saint John. Get ready for spectacular views along the way.
As you make your way through the Harbour Passage, you will reach Fort La Tour, where your tour will come to an end. Enjoy taking a walk back in time at this military post as you learn about the rich history of the area and explore the remnants of the fort before parting ways with your guide.
