Cooking in the outdoors is an art. It takes planning, organization, good gear and light-weight ingredients. Peak-Nic is a 4 KM intermediate hike up to a stunning peak followed by a hands-on backcountry cooking demonstration. You will learn how to prepare your own gourmet meal in the wilderness using efficient expedition cooking methods.

Your culinary outdoor adventure begins with meeting your guide at the Old Fort Point parking lot, a 5-minute drive from Jasper townsite. You’ll be given small backpack with some ingredients, outdoor cooking gear, and hiking poles.

Along the way to the top of Old Fort Peak, your guide will identify edible plants, mushrooms, recount the history and geology of the region. Watch carefully for wildlife along the way!

At the peak, you’ll learn how to cook delicious food in the outdoors using light and flavor-packed ingredients. This cooking lesson is designed with a “leave-no-trace” mindset, perfect for a backcountry adventure.

Then comes the best part – relax, enjoy an incredible meal while taking the spectacular panoramic views. Afterwards, it’s a short descent back to where you started.
