Your culinary outdoor adventure begins with meeting your guide at the Old Fort Point parking lot, a 5-minute drive from Jasper townsite. You’ll be given small backpack with some ingredients, outdoor cooking gear, and hiking poles.
In July 2024, a massive wildfire ripped through Jasper National Park, ravaging over 33,000 hectares of land. This was the largest wildfire in Jasper National Park in over 100 years.
Your guide will lead you through 4kms of Jasper National Park new growth forest emerging from the ash to one of Jasper’s prominent peaks. Along the way, you will learn to identify various species of plants, mushrooms, and wildflowers, learn about geology, history, forestry, wildfires and observe wildlife from a safe distance.
Once at the peak, you will take in 360-degree views of the different yet spectacular vistas for miles.
Your guide with teach you how to prepare your own gourmet meal in the wilderness using efficient expedition cooking methods. This cooking lesson is designed with a “leave-no-trace” mindset, perfect for a backcountry adventure. As you are enjoying your hot lunch, you guide will explain the roles and benefits of a wildfire over a hot lunch.
Afterwards, it’s a short descent back to where you started.

- Minimum of 2 people required.
- Maximum group size is 6 people.
- Minimum age for participation is 12 years old.
- Please advise the tour provider of any food allergies when you reserve your experience day/time. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
- Reasonable fitness levels required. This is an intermediate hike and includes some steep sections.
- Participants must wear hiking shoes and weatherproof layers, bring a personal bottle of drinking water, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
