These Introductory Polo Lessons will are the perfect opportunity to learn about the sport of polo and actually try playing polo on quiet well schooled horses. You will be taught everything you need to know on the ground first, before you get on a horse, so that you feel as safe and confident as possible.
If you have never ridden a horse before, no worries. The polo ponies are extremely obedient and impeccably trained. They know their job and they do it very well. The horses have an innate ability to know when a beginner is on their back and take extra good care of them.
You will be matched up with a friendly horse who suits your experience level and riding ability. Your instructor will teach you riding along with many other valuable basic horse skills before you begin working on your polo skills. More than two-thirds of students who take the lessons are beginners.
Lessons will be taught by instructors who are all Polo Canada and USPA members. You will be learn to play polo in a purpose-built polo training arena.
Introductory Polo Lesson:
During this two-hour introductory lesson you will learn how to swing, the different shots, the hitting position and how to balance while swinging both on foot and on wooden horses. In the second hour you will be on live horses learning how to ride for polo, as well as stick and ball technique and drills.
One-day Polo Clinic:
This one-day clinic will give you a chance to learn about Polo, as well as an opportunity to actually try polo out on the quiet well schooled horses. Non-riders: over 70% of participants have little or no riding experience.
One-daySchedule:
- 10:00 - 11:30: Introduction to playing Polo.
- 11:30 - 1:00: Ground work with hand mallets, hitting position and balance on wooden horses
- 1:00 – 2:00: Lunch – rules video.
- 2:00 – 3:30: Equipment overview, pony familiarization, polo riding lesson
- 3:30 – 4:30: Stick and Ball on horses. Scrimmage sessions
Kids Polo Lesson:
A Kids Polo Lesson is a great way to introduce kids to the sport of polo. The lesson runs for 40 minutes with an experienced instructor. All equipment, including one of their exceptional school ponies, is included.
