Introduction to Whistler Backcountry Skiing and Splitboarding

Have you been wanting to try backcounry snowboarding or skiing?

Venture into the backcountry adjacent to Whistler Blackcomb and spend a full day skiing or splitboarding while learning uphill and downhill skills in powder, safety awareness, and equipment use.

This course will get you experiencing what a backcountry day will be like, with a basic overview of:

❄️Avalanche rescue

❄️ Terrain analysis

❄️ Track setting

❄️ Uphill and downhill skiing technique

❄️ Route finding

❄️ Tree skiing

❄️ Trip planning

Splitboardng: A splitboard is a snowboard that has been split into two halves. Each half can be used independently like a ski to travel uphill.

What's included:

• Professional guide / instructor
• You can expect to do 2 to 4 runs, depending on ability and fitness level.

Duration:  8:30am - 4:30pm

When: November – April on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays*
*Subject to availability and snow conditions.

Where: Whistler  VIEW MAP

Need to know:

• To access the climbing site, you will need ski or snowboarding gear and a Whistler Blackcomb ski pass (pass can be purchased when you reserve you tour day/time with the tour provider).
• Minimum age for participation is 16 years.
• Minors (19yrs & under) require a guardian’s signature on their waiver.
• Lunch, snacks, and beverages are not included.
• Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately.
• Participants should have a moderate physical fitness level.
• To keep yourself warm and dry throughout the day ski shell jacket and pants are a must.
• You will need the appropriate touring boots and skis / board. If you need to you can rent from Escape Route when you arrive on site.
